Roy Fox Lichtenstein (October 27, 1923 – September 29, 1997) was an American pop artist. During the 1960s, along with Andy Warhol, among others, he became a leading figure in the new art movement. His work was influenced by popular advertising and the comic book style. He described pop art as "not 'American' painting but actually industrial painting".

Woman with Flowered Hat has held the record for highest Lichtenstein auction price since May 15, 2013 although that was recently beaten in 2015 by Nurse (sold for 95.4 million dollars).

In 2010 his cartoon-style 1964 painting Ohhh...Alright... was sold at a record US $42.6m (£26.7m) at a sale at Christie's in New York.
